Inland Revenue
Wellington - New Zealand
S: Competitive salary

• Join our cutting-edge team and work on high profile tax and social policy agendas
• Based in Wellington, New Zealand

The New Zealand Inland Revenue's Policy and Strategy Group advises the Government on all aspects of tax and related social policy. We are a multi-disciplinary team of professionals from a variety of academic backgrounds including lawyers, accountants and economists.

We are busy. New Zealand's Tax Working and Welfare Expert Advisory groups will soon report back to the government. We are advising these groups and anticipate that many policy changes could emerge from their recommendations. This is an exciting time to be involved. We love the work we do and will work to ensure that you will too!

We are looking for a candidate with strong microeconomic skills. Ideally you will have a good knowledge of the literature on the economics of taxation but this is not essential. At a minimum you will have the skills to engage with the literature while at the same time possessing the ability to reach sensible and pragmatic policy judgements. We are looking for a framework thinker who is able to drive forward our thinking on important tax policy issues. We want someone who is able to engage with other economic agencies and the private sector and provide a well-reasoned, articulate and convincing case for tax policy changes.

You will also be able to enhance our ability to provide the Government with high-quality evidence-based policy, including analysis of the likely impacts of tax changes on economic efficiency and income distribution. Part of your work will include leading economic analysis of the likely effects of tax policy changes on important economic variables including savings, investment, labour supply, foreign direct investment and tax evasion and avoidance.

You need to be comfortable and confident engaging with private sector industry representatives and tax specialists. Collaboration with the Tax Strategy Team in The Treasury, other policy agencies and our internal stakeholders is a critical part of the way we operate.

Please note Fixed Term tenures will also be considered.
