Job Description

The WWDE team within Amazon Customer Service is searching for an economist to help quantify the impact of customer service actions. By providing data-driven insights, your work will guide defect elimination priorities and refine customer contact responses across Amazon. Collaborating with product, program, and engineering teams, you will deliver findings through systems and dashboards that shape Customer Service strategies and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop scalable causal, economic, and machine learning models.
  • Conduct high-level economic analyses to influence research excellence.
  • Advise senior leaders on strategic policies using data-backed insights.

About the Team: The WWDE team champions the Voice of the Customer (VoC), empowering Amazon teams to measure, analyze, and act on feedback. With a mission to resolve issues affecting customer experiences, the team tackles defect detection and resolution, earning customer trust. Within WWDE, the Customer Service Economics & Optimization sub-team drives insights through causal analysis, improving service delivery and customer satisfaction globally.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in economics or equivalent.
  • At least two years of experience developing causal models.
  • Expertise in econometrics, economic theory, and quantitative methods.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in advanced machine learning methods, such as neural networks, random forests, and boosted regression trees.
  • Experience handling large, complex datasets with tools like Spark.
  • Competency in data analysis languages (e.g., R, Python, Stata).

Compensation: Base salary for this position ranges from $136,000 to $212,800, dependent on location and factors like experience, skills, and job knowledge. Additional benefits and compensation may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and medical or financial perks.
