AlixPartners is a worldwide consulting firm providing services in litigation, arbitration, and economic consulting. The firm’s economic consulting activities cover antitrust, commercial, and regulatory investigations, including mergers, litigation, and damage assessments.

The Tokyo office of AlixPartners seeks a Japanese-and-English-speaking PhD/Master economist eager to apply economic analysis to high-profile, real-world cases that can significantly influence broad business and economic activities in Japan and globally. While the primary focus is Japan, opportunities to work on European and US matters will also arise.

What you’ll do

As an Economics Vice President, your responsibilities will include supporting:

• Conducting economic and industry research and analyzing client materials to thoroughly understand the case’s nature and issues.
• Engaging with clients to secure necessary data and information for economic analysis.
• Executing data analysis, statistical modeling, and regression analysis using tools like Stata, R, Python, or SAS.
• Authoring reports for clients, legal advisors, competition authorities, and courts, including concisely identifying and evaluating key issues, summarizing data, methodologies, and analytical results, and aiding team members in interpreting outcomes within the relevant economic or commercial context.

What you’ll need

• Native or business-level proficiency in Japanese and English languages.
• PhD or Master’s degree in Economics, ideally focusing on Industrial Organization, Microeconomics, Econometrics, or Applied Economics.
• Proficiency with MS Excel and analytical software/relational databases and econometrics programs (e.g., Stata, R, SAS, MS SQL Server, MS Access, SPSS).
• A strong history of technical expertise demonstrated through past casework and/or publications.
• Exceptional communication, managerial, and analytical capabilities, along with leadership skills.
• 3-5 years of relevant work experience (particularly in the consulting sector).
• Readiness to work beyond standard business hours, especially as unique projects or needs demand.
• Capacity to work full-time in both office and remote settings; physically capable of sitting/standing at a computer and working on-screen for extended periods.
