Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Agricultural Economist who will:

  • Lead groundbreaking projects to provide high-quality economic evaluations that promote profitability and sustainability.
  • Embrace new challenges and collaborate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Apply economic principles to address issues and propose solutions in agricultural production, natural resource management, and policy analysis.

Role Overview

In the role of Senior Agricultural Economist, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with landholders, industry groups, colleagues, natural resource management bodies, universities, and government agencies.
  • Developing bio-economic models and utilizing various economic analysis techniques to assess agricultural activities, natural resource management projects, and policy impacts.
  • Providing training and support for stakeholders in the use of DPI economic decision-making tools, such as www.featonline.com.au.
  • Utilizing advanced technologies and software to analyze data and generate reports that align with project timelines and management requirements.
  • Offering strategic advice to management and stakeholders to improve service delivery and achieve quality outcomes.
  • Leading projects that deliver top-tier economic evaluations to enhance profitability and sustainability.
  • Mentoring and supervising staff to ensure project success and support the professional growth of regional economists.
  • Designing and implementing new projects and collaborative partnerships to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of the agricultural sector.

Key Requirements

  • Frequent overnight travel to regional areas will be required for certain tasks.
  • Experience working with the agricultural sector and primary producers is highly desirable.

Eligibility Criteria

During the selection process, you will be asked to provide evidence that you meet the following criteria:

Citizenship or Visa Requirements

To be eligible, you must be an Australian citizen, hold permanent residency, or possess a valid visa that allows you to work in Australia.

If you are not an Australian citizen, you must:

  • Provide documentation of your residency or visa status, including details of your right to work in Australia (including any restrictions or conditions).
  • Inform the department if your right to work in Australia changes.

Licenses and Registrations

  • A current ‘C’ class driver’s license is required.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in economics, business, or agriculture (with economics/business) is necessary.
  • Applicants with international qualifications will need to have their credentials assessed for equivalency with the Australian Qualifications Framework.

The Department of Employment, Small Business, and Training can assist Queensland residents with these assessments.
