The W. P. Carey Center for Real Estate and Finance is actively seeking a Research Economist to join its ranks. This open-rank, non-tenure track position offers a 12-month, renewable appointment with responsibilities centered on conducting high-impact research in real estate. The role addresses key issues pertinent to Arizona and the Southwest, while also providing valuable insights for government, business, and academia.

Job Scope and Description: As a Research Economist, you will tackle applied real estate research that spans housing, industrial, and commercial markets, as well as socioeconomic, legal, policy, and trade issues. Leveraging a strong foundation in analytics, this role involves managing and analyzing extensive datasets, implementing surveys, and producing impactful studies, including both white papers and academic publications. Your ability to clearly and effectively communicate results will ensure practical application by diverse audiences.

While this role allows for independent project execution, it also involves collaboration on team-led initiatives. The position is ideal for candidates seeking to contribute both to academia and to the wider business and policy-making community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive research on real estate topics, including impact studies and policy analyses.
  • Utilize tools such as R, Stata, GIS, EViews, and Excel to perform detailed data analyses.
  • Draft policy briefs, academic papers, and reports; present findings to both expert and general audiences.
  • Collect and manage economic data and lead the design of relevant surveys.
  • Examine local and regional real estate markets and contextualize findings within national trends.
  • Collaborate on grant proposals and contribute to business development initiatives.
  • Engage in dissemination activities such as preparing reports for media and digital platforms.
  • Spearhead special projects and foster connections with key stakeholders in business and government.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • For Assistant Research Economist: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Real Estate, Urban Planning, Finance, or a similar field.
  • For Associate or Full Research Economist: Advanced degree or equivalent experience in related disciplines.
  • Proficiency in quantitative analysis, with a strong grasp of data management and interpretation.
  • Proven commitment to research integrity and excellence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on projects involving real estate or policy research.
  • Expertise in econometrics, GIS, and fiscal or economic impact analysis.
  • Familiarity with Arizona’s real estate landscape, including regulatory and tax systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, alongside proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
